Cinematic moments in life.

On Tuesday I left St John's for what will be the foreseeable future.  I cant even begin to put my time there into words so I wont even try, though I know for certain that I left a piece of my heart there.

My favourite seat on the plane! Right hand side, just behind the wing.

Chasing the sun.
Not allowed to turn on my iPod while the plane was taking off, I plugged myself into the on board entertainment system in an effort to entertain myself.   As we taxied down the runway, in one of those ridiculous cinematic moments in life that are usually reserved only for cheesy movies "Perfect Day" by Lou Reed came on.  One minute later as the wheels lifted off the tarmac the first chorus kicked in.  Being a sentimental old fool, I must admit that I shed a tear or two.  It was simultaneously heartbreaking and utterly hilarious.

My tears turned to smiles as I thought of all the wonderful people I met and the adventures we had together in Newfoundland.

St John's, I salute you.  I will be back.

More collections

More treasure collecting, this time it is from Ferryland. My favourite items include a cod jaw, fish vertebrae and some beautiful pottery and beach glass.  Proper documentation of this loot coming soon:

And something else that I didn't find, but was found then gifted to me by this one a MOOSE TOOTH!!!  I have collected a lot of weird and wonderful things in my time but this is certainly something I didn't expect to be bringing home with me!  I guess that finding moose teeth in Canada is like me going to Tentsmuir to find bits of seal.  Or maybe not.  Either way, it is now one of my prized possessions and will take pride of place in my growing museum of beautiful things.

WOWZA!!!

Buried Ghosts

Its been a while since I last updated, I am currently almost 3000 miles from Scotland and obviously my adventuring has taken priority over blogging.   However, this evening is a rainy evening so I have hijacked the laptop of my good friend Audrey with the intent of updating.  A lot has happened in the time between my last post and now.

Most excitingly, I had my first ever solo show in Tin Roof at the end of August (I will make a proper post about that on my return to Scotland).  I moved out of my beloved flat (and possibly also Dundee forever) as well as burying some ghosts (both physically and figuratively).

I have been here in Canada for 4 weeks now, and my travels have taken me to Toronto, Montreal and to St John's in Newfoundland where I am am currently sitting in one of the cosiest and homely kitchens I have ever had the pleasure of sitting in.

Theres not a lot to in St John's in the evening, so we have been spending the time drinking wine and making lists.

Oh Canada

In ten days time I will be on a plane and on my way to my Canadian adventure.

Saturday was my last day at work.  I worked there for almost 2 and a half years, which in waitressing time is about 40 years.  At times it was the most stressful job I have ever had, but the banter got us all through the day.  I have made some amazing friends in my time there, and I am sad to be leaving it behind.

My leaving gift.  Edible leaving card and a bunch of Canadian dollars.

We had a party on Saturday night and my good pal little-oddities baked me some appropriately themed cakes for the occasion.

I have also finally gotten round to doing most of the things I had been putting off.  You will all be pleased to know that my limbs are now ensured for £15, 000 each.

Adventuring

Six weeks today, I will fly from Glasgow to Toronto.  I will spend 12 days pottering around various places before I fly from Montreal to St. Johns in New Foundland (via a stop in Halifax) for a long over due re-union with the very talented Audrey Hurd.  I will spend between 6-8 weeks adventuring around parts of Eastern Canada, but apart from what I have already mentioned I have no firm plans which is exciting/terrifying.

My planned route (maybe) 2129k/1323m (give or take a few).

If anyone has been to Toronto/Montreal or any places in between and has any recommendations for me please drop me a line.
