And here is another new piece that I am particularly fond of!  Its nice to do something light hearted for a change. I am definitely going to be expanding on this idea.

I have begun work on some new collage pieces.  Its been a long time since I did some purely two-dimensional collage. So far it's been fun getting back into it and looking at it with a different perspective while trying to build on it with what I have learned through my work with 3-d assemblage and objects.  Here is a sneak preview of one idea I have been playing around with:

Update!!!

Oh goodness, its been a mad month or so here, there is lots going on and not enough hours in my day.  Regardless, I have been soldiering on and getting things done and the first few weeks of the year have been especially productive. So what have I been up to?

I have been working on something new and exciting with this one and this one and this one, and you can expect more info in the next few days once all of the final little creases are ironed out.

I have been back down to Cardonald College for more printmaking workshops, and last week I was also helping teach a class.  It was hard work but worth every second, even the half a day spent helping someone screen print onto CLING FILM was worth it.

I will have some new work featured in a show themed around artists postcards;  you can read more about that here http://artistspostcards.tumblr.com/exhibition, and you should also contribute.  My submission will be a combination of new text pieces and manipulated images, something simple but bold.  I will upload some images nearer the time.

This week, I also have a small piece in a wee show at The Social in Dundee.  Normally I avoid this kind of show, but its a nice space and there will be some good work to show alongside. Its the first collage I have completed in a while, as well as being one of the smallest I have ever made at 4x8cm!!

New Collage

I have been working on some new collage.  This time I am working directly onto the glass of existing pieces, obscuring them and adding another layer to the work.  

Quick assemblage

I try and do one piece of work each day, even if its tiny.  I made this little assemblage the other day and at 7cm x 10cm its much smaller than anything else I usually make.  Im quite fond of it, and I think Ill make a  couple more so I have a wee set of them for my mantle piece at home.

Red

I found this rather lovely pallet round the back of the art school, and decided to rescue it.  I primed and sealed the wood then painted it eye popping red.  Its going to be a text piece (and hopefully also a final piece towards my final show).

Collage on board

This past week I have begun a series of collages on found boards (mainly pulled from the skip at the back of our studio). Something about the section on the right hand side isn't quite right and I can't quite put my finger on it (not totally happy with the cardboard text), and as a result none of it is permanently fixed down yet.

I feel I need a day outdoors collecting new items to work with, a lot of what I have in my studio has been there since last semester and Im getting bored looking at it. I did find a particularly lovely rusty and squashed tin can in the road last week but so far it has remained homeless.

Clinical Collage

For our semester one assessments I began work on a series of collages make from a combination of found objects and photographs I had taken (mainly on a 35mm pinhole camera). The work turned out a lot more clean and clinical than I am used to, but I was thrilled with the end results. I seem to have mis-placed the photos of the final framed pieces, but there are one or two of the unframed pieces. More photos when I locate them!

The photos don't really do this piece justice unfortunately. The paint on the cardboard in the first one is navy blue and there is a burgundy square on the black card in the second. Hopefully there will be better photos soon.
